An overview of the till

A quick tour of the Cmerce till – the three ways to use it, what you see on screen and where to find the most important functions.

The Cmerce till is where you register sales in the shop, take payment and run the end-of-day report. The same till comes in three variants, and all of them use the same registers (kassapunkter), the same products and the same electronic journal. This article gives you the big picture before you move on to the individual tasks.

Three ways to use the till

VariantSuited forHow you sign in
The web till in the browserA PC or tablet at the counterYou sign in to the back office with e-mail and password and choose «Åpne kasse» (Open till)
The till app in the browser (Kasse-appen i nettleseren, at the address …/kasseapp)A tablet or PC used only as a tillThe device is paired once with a register, then staff sign in with their till PIN (kasse-PIN)
The till app on Android (Kasse-appen, Cmerce POS)Phones, tablets and POS terminals with a built-in printerThe device is paired with a QR code, then staff sign in with their till PIN

The till app in the browser must be switched on for your shop by Cmerce. Read more in Signing in to the till.

The sales screen

Once the till is open, the screen is split in two:

  • On the left are the search field («Søk produkt, SKU eller strekkode...» – search product, SKU or barcode), the camera button for scanning, the till categories and the product grid. The «× 1» button to the right of the categories is a quantity multiplier: choose 5, for example, and the next item you tap is added five times.
  • On the right is the cart. At the top you see which customer is on the sale (the default is «Kontantkunde», the walk-in customer), then the item lines and the totals «Subtotal», «MVA» (VAT), «Rabatt» (discount) if any, and «Totalt».

Below the cart there are three buttons:

  • «Kunde» (Customer) – look up, create or remove the customer on the sale.
  • «Finn ordre» (Find order) – find an earlier sale or a web order for a return or a handover. A number on the button shows click-and-collect orders waiting.
  • «Mer» (More) – opens the «Flere handlinger» (More actions) panel.

At the bottom is the large «Betal» (Pay) button, and when there are items in the cart also «Parker salg» (Park sale) and «Annuller salg» (Cancel sale).

On a phone the cart is hidden behind a bar at the bottom of the screen showing the number of items and the total. Tap it to open the cart.

The «Flere handlinger» panel

What you see under «Mer» depends on which features your shop uses and which permissions you have. Typically you will find:

  • «Start abonnement», «Selg gavekort», «Selg klippekort», «Book aktivitet», «Bookinger» and «Innsjekk» (start subscription, sell gift card, sell punch card, book activity, bookings, check-in)
  • «Rabatt» – order discount or coupon code
  • «Fri pris» – an item or service without a fixed price
  • «Åpne skuff» – open the cash drawer without a sale
  • Under «Oppslag og rapporter» (Look-ups and reports): «Parkert», «Historikk», «X-rapport» and «Treningsmodus» (parked, history, X-report, training mode)
  • At the bottom: «Lukk skift» (Close shift) – count the cash and create the Z-rapport (end-of-day report)

A typical working day

  1. Open the till and enter the opening float. See Opening the till and starting the day.
  2. Register items using search, barcode or category buttons. See Registering sales.
  3. Take payment by cash, card, Vipps, gift card or invoice.
  4. Take an X-report when needed, and end the day with «Lukk skift» and the Z-report.

Good to know

  • The till is built to comply with the kassasystemlova (the Cash Register Systems Act). A completed sale can never be changed or deleted – mistakes are corrected with a return, and a started sale you do not want to complete is cancelled with its own receipt.
  • At the top of the screen you see the shop name, the register ID (for example K001), a clock and whether the shift is «Aktiv» (Active). In training mode the badge «TRENING» is shown.
  • You can switch between light and dark theme with the sun/moon button at the top right. The choice applies to that device only.
