The till app on Android – installing and pairing
How to connect the till app on an Android device to a register with a QR code, and how staff sign in with their till PIN.
The till app (Kasse-appen) is the Cmerce till for Android devices, for example an iMin till or a Surfboard payment terminal. The app is connected to one register by scanning a QR code from the admin panel. After that, staff sign in with their till PIN (kasse-PIN) – no email or password at the till.
Before you start
- The register must already exist. See Registers and locations.
- Staff who will use the till need a role with till access and a till PIN. See Users, roles and permissions.
- To create the pairing code you need the permission «Konfigurere kassepunkter, lokasjoner, printer/leser» (Configure registers, locations, printer/reader).
Installing the app
On the device, the till app is called Cmerce POS. On Surfboard payment terminals the app is delivered through Surfboard. For other Android devices you get the app from Cmerce.
How to pair the app with a register
- Open the admin panel on a PC or tablet.
- Go to «Kasse (POS)» → «Kasser» (Registers).
- Press «Par enhet» (Pair device) on the register the device will be used for. A QR code appears.
- Open the till app on the device. The «Koble til kasse» (Connect to register) screen appears.
- Scan the QR code from the admin panel with the device.
- The app connects to the register and moves on to sign-in.
How staff sign in
- On the «Logg på kassa» (Sign in to the till) screen, the employee chooses «Velg navn» (Choose name) and taps their name – or chooses «Ansatt-ID» (Employee ID) and types their employee ID.
- Enter the till PIN.
- Press «Logg på» (Sign in).
If the PIN is entered wrongly too many times, it is locked for a while: «For mange forsøk. Kasse-PIN-en er midlertidig sperret.» (Too many attempts. The till PIN is temporarily locked.) The app shows how long until the next attempt. A manager can unlock it with «Lås opp kasse-PIN» (Unlock till PIN) under «Brukere» (Users) in the admin panel.
After pairing
- The register is bound to the device. Only this device can use the register until it is disconnected. You can see this under «Bundet enhet» (Bound device) on the register.
- Hardware is detected automatically. If the device has a built-in printer, like an iMin, it is registered by itself. See iMin with built-in printer.
- The device appears under «Enheter» (Devices). There you see the model, app version and when it was last active. See Managing and retiring devices.
Changing device or register
- New device on the same register: Pair the new device with «Par enhet» on the register. The old device is then disconnected automatically and loses access.
- Disconnect in the app: In the app's settings («Kasse innstillinger»), press «Koble fra kassen» (Disconnect from register) and confirm with «Koble fra». The device must then scan a new pairing code to use a register.
Good to know
- The app's settings show the store, register, operator, manufacturer, model and app version – handy when you contact support.
- Menu features (for example subscriptions, gift cards, punch cards, bookings and click & collect) only appear when they are turned on for the store. You can override them per register under «Funksjoner» (Features) on the register.
- Two-factor sign-in does not apply at the till. The device was approved when it was paired, and the till PIN confirms who is at the till.
Frequently asked questions
Pairing fails.
The code has probably been used or has expired. Close the «Par enhet» dialog and open it again to get a new code.
An employee is missing from the list of names.
The employee has no till PIN or no till access. Set a till PIN on the user and check their role. Then press «Oppdater liste» (Refresh list) in the app.
