Payment terminal from Surfboard
How to register a Surfboard payment terminal, connect it to a register and adjust the settings on the terminal.
With a Surfboard payment terminal the till takes card payments directly: the amount is sent to the terminal, the customer pays, and the sale completes at the till once the payment is approved. You connect the terminal to one or more registers in Cmerce.
Before you start
- The store needs an active Surfboard account, connected under «Betalingsmetoder» (Payment methods). See Surfboard – application and activation.
- The terminal must be switched on and connected to the network.
- The register must already exist. See Registers and locations.
- You need access to the payment settings.
How to register the terminal
- Go to «Innstillinger» (Settings) → «Salg og betaling» (Sales and payment) → «Betalingsmetoder».
- Find Surfboard and the «Kortterminaler» (Card terminals) section.
- Press «Registrer terminal» (Register terminal).
- Fill in the «Registreringskode» (Registration code) field:
- Ordinary card terminal: enter the 6-digit code shown on the terminal when it starts up.
- SurfPad: enter the SurfPad's serial number. A SurfPad does not show a 6-digit code (see below).
- Optionally give the terminal a name in «Navn (valgfritt)» (Name, optional).
- Press «Registrer». You see «Terminal registrert» (Terminal registered) with the terminal ID.
If you have added or changed terminals in the Surfboard portal, press «Synkroniser med Surfboard» (Sync with Surfboard) to bring the changes into Cmerce.
How to connect the terminal to a register
- Under «Kortterminaler», find the terminal in the list.
- Tick the register (or registers) that should use the terminal.
The link is saved straight away. On the register you see it under «Maskinvare» (Hardware) → «Kortterminal» (Card terminal), and the register status changes from «Mangler terminal» (Missing terminal) to «Klar» (Ready) once the printer is in place too.
Managing the terminal
Each terminal in the list has these options:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| «Gi nytt navn» (Rename) | Changes the name. The name is stored at Surfboard and also shows in the Surfboard portal. |
| «Status» | Shows last seen, battery, power source, network, software and serial number, among other things. |
| «Terminalinnstillinger» (Terminal settings) | Settings for this terminal (see below). |
| «Start terminalen på nytt» (Restart the terminal) | Restarts the terminal as soon as it is online and idle. |
Settings on the terminal
Some of the settings you can change in «Terminalinnstillinger»:
- «Språk på terminalen» (Terminal language) – for example «Norsk» (Norwegian).
- «Vis kvittering på terminalskjermen» (Show receipt on the terminal screen) – turn off if the till prints or sends the receipt itself.
- «Åpne kasseappen etter omstart» (Open the till app after restart) – whether the till app (Kasse-appen) starts automatically after the terminal restarts.
- «Automatisk omstart (HH:MM)» (Automatic restart) – the terminal must restart once a day. The restart happens within an hour of the set time. The default is 02:00.
- «Offline-modus» (Offline mode) – lets the terminal accept card payments without a network and forward them when the connection is back.
The settings are sent to the terminal via Surfboard.
Printing on the terminal
If the till app runs on a Surfboard terminal with a built-in printer, the till can print the receipt there. Choose «Enhetens innebygde skriver» (The device's built-in printer) under «Skriver» on the register.
Under «Innstillinger» → «Kasse» (Till) → «Utskrift» (Printing) you choose how each type of print is rendered on the terminal: «Hybrid – skarp topp/bunn, rask tekst» (Hybrid – sharp top/bottom, fast text; recommended for receipts), «Rask tekst (native)» (Fast text; quickest, good for reports and gift cards) or «Bilde – skarpest, men tregest» (Image – sharpest but slowest).
Good to know
- Card sales can still be recorded without a terminal. If no terminal is connected to the register, you can take payment on a standalone terminal and record the sale as card at the till.
- «Utdatert terminalkobling» (Outdated terminal link): If you see this, a register is linked to a terminal that no longer exists at Surfboard. Tick a new terminal for that register.
- Stuck card payment: If an approved card payment has locked the terminal for a register, a manager editing the register sees the «Løs fastlåst kortbetaling» (Resolve stuck card payment) button. Complete the sale where it happened if you can. If the money has been taken and the sale cannot be completed, the amount must be refunded on the terminal.
- One terminal can serve several registers, and a register can have one terminal.
Frequently asked questions
I can't see «Kortterminaler».
The Surfboard account is not active yet. Complete the Surfboard application under «Betalingsmetoder» first.
Registration fails.
Check the code on the terminal. It is shown when the terminal starts – restart it to see the code again. If it still fails, the error message from Surfboard is shown in the «Kunne ikke registrere terminal» (Could not register terminal) notification.
