Registers and locations

How to create locations (your stores) and registers (the points of sale), and what the settings for float, end of day, printer, cash drawer and device mean.

Before you can sell at the till, Cmerce needs to know where you sell and from which registers. A location is the store or site. A register is the place at the location where the customer pays – the law calls it a kassapunkt (point of sale). Each register has its own journal and its own end-of-day report.

Before you start

  • Fill in your company details first. The till cannot be opened without a company name and organisation number. See Company details and store profile.
  • You need the permission «Konfigurere kassepunkter, lokasjoner, printer/leser» (Configure registers, locations, printer/reader). The roles Eier (Owner), Administrator and Butikkansvarlig (Store manager) have it.

How to create a location

  1. Go to «Kasse (POS)» → «Lokasjoner» (Locations).
  2. Press «Ny lokasjon» (New location).
  3. Fill in «Navn» (Name), and the address under «Adresse»: «Gateadresse» (Street address), «Postnummer» (Postcode), «Sted» (Town) and «Land» (Country).
  4. If the location has its own Vipps sales unit, fill in «Vipps MSN». This is optional.
  5. Save.

The organisation number comes from the company details and applies to the whole business.

How to create a register

  1. Go to «Kasse (POS)» → «Kasser» (Registers).
  2. Press «Ny kasse» (New register).
  3. Choose «Lokasjon» (Location) and give the register a «Navn», for example «Hovedkasse» (Main till).
  4. «Kassapunkt-ID» (Register ID) is assigned automatically (K001, K002 …).
  5. Optionally fill in «Standard veksel ved åpning» (Default opening float) – the amount suggested when a shift is opened.
  6. Choose «Standard betalingsmåte» (Default payment method): «Kontant» (Cash), «Kort» (Card) or «Manuell» (Manual).
  7. Choose printer and cash drawer under «Maskinvare» (Hardware) and «Kassaskuff» (Cash drawer) – see below.
  8. Save.

The register settings

End of day

FieldMeaning
«Påminnelse om dagsoppgjør» (End-of-day reminder)The time, in the night after the business day, when the till starts reminding you to run the end-of-day report. Empty = the store default (02:00).
«Sperr nye salg fra» (Block new sales from)The time when the till stops accepting new sales until the end-of-day report has been run. A sale already started can always be completed. Empty = the store default (04:00).

Both must be between 00:00 and 06:00. Registers open around the clock are not supported yet – every sale must be finished and the end-of-day report run before the block time.

Hardware

  • «Skriver» (Printer): choose «Enhetens innebygde skriver» (The device's built-in printer, for example iMin or a Surfboard terminal) or «Nettverksskriver (CloudPRNT)» (Network printer).
  • «Nettverksskriver»: pick a connected Star printer. See Connect a receipt printer.
  • «Skriv ut kvittering automatisk» (Print receipt automatically): on = the receipt prints after every sale and refund. Off = staff get a «Skriv ut kvittering» (Print receipt) button instead.
  • «Kortterminal» (Card terminal): shows which terminal the register uses. Terminals are connected under «Betalingsmetoder» (Payment methods) – press «Administrer i Betalingsmetoder». See Payment terminal from Surfboard.

Cash drawer

Turn on «Kassen har integrert kassaskuff» (The register has an integrated cash drawer) if the register has a drawer connected to the DK port of a Star printer. The drawer then opens automatically on cash sales and cash returns, and when a staff member presses «Åpne skuff» (Open drawer). Every opening is recorded in the journal and counted on the X- and Z-reports. While the drawer is open, nothing can be registered on the till – close the drawer before you carry on. See The cash drawer.

If the drawer hangs off a different printer from the one that prints receipts, choose it under «Skriver som åpner skuffen» (Printer that opens the drawer). Only network printers (CloudPRNT) can open a drawer.

Device binding and features

  • «Bundet enhet» (Bound device): when set, only that device can operate the register. Leave it empty if several devices should be able to use it. When you pair the till app (Kasse-appen), the register is bound to that device automatically. See The till app on Android.
  • «Kategorioppsett» (Category layout): decides which category buttons the register shows.
  • Under «Funksjoner» (Features) you can force optional features in the till app menu «Alltid på» (Always on) or «Alltid av» (Always off) for this register only. «Auto» follows the store's settings.

The register overview

The list under «Kasser» shows, among other things:

  • «Status»: «Klar» (Ready), or what is missing, for example «Mangler skriver + terminal» (Missing printer + terminal).
  • «Aktiv enhet» (Active device) and «Sist sett» (Last seen): which device is using the register now, and when it was last active.
  • «Bundet enhet».

From the list you can also press «Par enhet» (Pair device) to connect the till app, and «Frigi kasse» (Release register) if a device is holding the register and you need to free it.

Good to know

  • You open the web till with «Åpne kasse» (Open till) in the «Kasse (POS)» menu group.
  • The end-of-day report (Z-rapport) is run per register. See End of day and the Z-report.
  • The dashboard shows the «Kom i gang med kassen» checklist until location, register, printer and payment terminal are in place.
