Managing and retiring devices

An overview of every device that uses the till, and how to rename them, revoke them when they are lost or being replaced, and clean up old devices.

Under «Enheter» (Devices) you see every tablet, phone, terminal and browser that has been connected to the till. Here you give them recognisable names, see which register they use, and remove their access when a device is lost, stolen or being replaced.

Before you start

  • You need the permission «Konfigurere kassepunkter, lokasjoner, printer/leser» (Configure registers, locations, printer/reader).
  • You cannot add a device here. Devices register themselves: a browser the first time it opens the web till, and an app device when it is paired with a QR code. See The till app on Android.

The overview

Go to «Kasse (POS)» → «Enheter». The list shows, among other things:

ColumnShows
«Plattform» (Platform)«Nettleser» (Browser), «Android» or «iOS»
«Maskinvare» (Hardware)Manufacturer and model
«App-versjon» (App version)The version of the till app
«Kasse» (Register)The register the device is connected to, or «Ikke tilknyttet» (Not linked)
«Tilknytning» (Link)«Bundet» (Bound), «Foreldreløs» (Orphaned – an app device without a register) or «Tilbakekalt» (Revoked)
«CheckoutX»Whether the device is registered for card payments through the CheckoutX app
«Sist sett» (Last seen)When the device was last active
«Status»«Aktiv» (Active) or «Tilbakekalt» (Revoked)

Rename a device

  1. Click the device to edit it.
  2. Change «Navn» (Name), for example «Kasse 1 – disk» (Till 1 – counter).
  3. Save.

The edit page also shows the hardware («Produsent», «Modell», «OS», «App-versjon») and any CheckoutX registration.

Revoke a device

Do this if a device is lost, stolen or no longer in use.

  1. Press «Tilbakekall» (Revoke) on the device.
  2. Confirm with «Tilbakekall».

The device loses access to the till straight away: its sign-in is deleted, any register it was holding or bound to is released, and any built-in printer is disconnected. The device stays in the list as «Tilbakekalt».

Delete a device

Press «Slett» (Delete) on the device and confirm in the «Slett enhet» (Delete device) dialog. The device is first revoked as described above, and then removed from the list.

Replacing a device

If a new device is taking over a register, you do not need to revoke the old one first. Pair the new device with «Par enhet» (Pair device) on the register. The old device is then disconnected automatically, and the new device's built-in printer takes over if the register uses «Enhetens innebygde skriver» (The device's built-in printer).

Automatic clean-up

  1. Press «Oppryddingsregler» (Clean-up rules) at the top of «Enheter».
  2. Fill in «Slett inaktive app-enheter etter (dager)» (Delete inactive app devices after, days). The default is 120 days.
  3. Save.

App devices that are not connected to a register and have been inactive for that long are deleted automatically. Browser devices are cleaned up separately.

CheckoutX on a device

If the device takes card payments through Surfboard's CheckoutX app, you can link the terminal manually with «Koble CheckoutX-terminal» (Link CheckoutX terminal). Pick the terminal in «Surfboard-terminal», or type the terminal ID in «… eller skriv inn terminal-ID manuelt» (… or enter the terminal ID manually). «Fjern CheckoutX-kobling» (Remove CheckoutX link) removes the link again.

Good to know

  • Release a register without revoking the device: Under «Kasser» (Registers) you can press «Frigi kasse» (Release register). The device loses access to that register and has to take it again.
  • «Enhetstrekk (kun til informasjon)» (Device traits, for information only) on the edit page are never used for sign-in or access.
  • Orphaned devices are app devices that are no longer connected to any register, for example after a device swap. Delete them, or let the automatic clean-up remove them.
