The webshop checkout and payment methods

What the webshop checkout looks like to the customer – contact details, delivery, payment, gift cards and coupons – and how you control which payment methods appear.

The webshop checkout is the page where the customer fills in their details, chooses delivery and payment, and confirms the purchase. Customers can shop as guests or log in. This article explains what the customer sees and what you control from the admin panel.

Before you start

What the checkout looks like to the customer

  1. Contact details. The customer fills in «Fornavn» (First name), «Etternavn» (Last name), «E-post» (E-mail) and «Telefon» (Phone). If the customer is not logged in, the login buttons for the methods you have enabled are shown, so the customer can log in instead of checking out as a guest.
  2. Delivery. Shown only when the cart contains an item that requires shipping. The customer chooses «Send til meg» (Send to me) or «Hent i butikk» (Pick up in store) and fills in an address. For a cart with only digital items, checkout asks for «Fakturaadresse» (Billing address) instead.
  3. Payment. The customer chooses among the payment methods enabled for the webshop. Under «Har du gavekort?» (Have a gift card?) the customer can use a gift card. If the gift card covers the whole amount, no other payment is needed.
  4. Order summary. On the right the customer sees the items, any «Kupong» (Coupon), «Rabatt» (Discount), «Frakt» (Shipping), VAT per rate and «Totalt» (Total).
  5. Confirm purchase. Below the «Bekreft kjøp» (Confirm purchase) button it says the customer accepts the terms of sale and has a 14-day right of withdrawal, with links to both pages.
  6. Confirmation. The customer sees «Takk for din bestilling!» (Thank you for your order!) with the order reference, and receives an order confirmation by e-mail.

Payment methods in the webshop

You control which payment methods the customer sees under «Innstillinger» → «Salg og betaling» → «Betalingsmetoder». Each payment method has tick boxes for the channels «Nettbutikk» and «Kasse (POS)». Only payment methods that are switched on and ticked for «Nettbutikk» appear at checkout.

  • Cards and wallets go through your payment provider (Surfboard or Stripe). See Surfboard and Stripe.
  • Vipps MobilePay sends the customer on to the Vipps app. See Vipps MobilePay.
  • Manual payment suits, for example, bank transfer. The payment instructions you enter are shown to the customer at checkout and on the confirmation page. See Manual payment.

If the customer is logged in and pays with Stripe, they can tick «Lagre kortet for fremtidige kjøp» (Save the card for future purchases) and use the saved card next time.

Good to know

  • An e-mail that belongs to an account. If a customer enters an e-mail address that already belongs to a customer account, they must either log in with that account or confirm the address with a one-time code sent by e-mail.
  • Punch cards require login. If the cart contains a punch card, the customer must log in or create an account before the purchase can be completed.
  • The order confirmation is not a receipt. The order confirmation confirms that the order has been received. The receipt (sales document) is sent when the payment is captured. See Sales documents for online sales.
  • Right of withdrawal in the e-mail. The order confirmation includes information about the right of withdrawal and a link to the withdrawal form, as long as this is switched on under «Juridiske sider» (Legal pages). See Right of withdrawal, terms and privacy.
  • Which e-mails the customer receives is set under «Innstillinger» → «Bedrift» (Company) → «Varslinger» (Notifications).

Frequently asked questions

Does the customer have to create an account to shop?

No. The customer can check out as a guest. The exception is products tied to an account, such as punch cards.

Why does a payment method not appear at checkout?

Check that the payment method is switched on, that «Nettbutikk» is ticked, and that the connection to the payment provider is active under «Betalingsmetoder».
