Prohibited functions – what Cmerce will not let you do
The Cash Register Systems Regulations prohibits a number of functions that could be used to hide turnover. Here is which ones, and what Cmerce does instead when you try.

Sometimes you may want to do something at the till that Cmerce refuses: delete a sale, print another copy or correct an amount. This is not because the system is awkward, but because the law forbids cash register systems from having such functions. Here is what is prohibited, and how to solve the situation lawfully.
The prohibitions – and what Cmerce does
| Prohibition in § 2-6 | How it is in Cmerce |
|---|---|
| No hidden functions (first paragraph) | All till functions are described in the system description. There are no secret menus, codes or modes. |
| No connection to equipment or software that can change or delete the journal (second paragraph) | The journal lives on Cmerce's servers. Neither you, your staff nor integrations get access to the database. |
| No deleting, changing or adding to registered data (third paragraph) | A completed sale is signed and locked. Mistakes are corrected with a return, which is a new transaction. |
| Programmed item text cannot be changed at or after registration (third paragraph) | The text on the receipt is stored on the sale the moment it is completed. If you change the product name in the catalogue later, it only applies to new sales. |
| A sale cannot be completed without a sales receipt (fourth paragraph) | Every completed sale gets a sales receipt. The printer never stops a sale – the receipt waits in the print queue if the printer is disconnected. |
| At most one copy receipt (fourth paragraph) | You can print one copy per sale. The next attempt is refused. |
| No registration while the integrated cash drawer is open (fifth paragraph) | The till blocks all registrations – not just new sales – until the drawer is closed. See Cash drawer and drawer openings. |
| No registration when the storage memory is full (sixth paragraph) | The journal is stored on the server, not on the device in the shop. The till only registers when it is connected to the server. |
| Items cannot be marked so they are left out of the X- and Z-reports (seventh paragraph) | The X- and Z-reports include all transactions. There is no setting to leave out items, employees or payment methods. |
Other things Cmerce refuses
Because the law requires that no registration disappears, Cmerce also refuses:
- Quietly emptying the basket. If you remove the last item in a sale in progress, the till asks whether you want to cancel the sale. The cancellation is recorded in the journal, and a void receipt is printed.
- Closing the till while a sale is in progress. The sale must be completed or cancelled first.
- A parked sale surviving the end-of-day close. Parked sales still waiting when the till is closed are cancelled – each with its own void receipt.
- Refunding a till sale from the admin panel. A sale from the till can only be returned at the till, so that a return receipt and a journal entry are created.
- Returning a training sale, or returning a return.
- Choosing the VAT rate yourself. With fri pris (open price) you choose an item with a fixed VAT rate, not a percentage.
What do I do instead?
| Situation | Solution |
|---|---|
| Wrong price or wrong item on a completed sale | Make a return and register the correct sale. See Returns and refunds. |
| The customer changed their mind before paying | Remove the item, or cancel the whole sale. |
| The customer needs a new receipt, but the copy has been used | Send the receipt by e-mail or SMS. It will be marked KOPI (copy), but it does not count towards the limit of one printed copy. |
| You want to practise without real sales | Use training mode. See Training mode. |
In short
- The law prohibits functions that could hide or change turnover.
- In Cmerce nobody can delete or change a sale, the journal or a Z-report.
- You can print one copy receipt per sale.
- The till blocks registrations while the cash drawer is open.
- Mistakes are always corrected with a new registration, such as a return or a cancellation.
