Shopify
Connect your Shopify store to Cmerce and sell your Shopify items at the till with shared stock. How to create the app in Shopify, run the wizard, and what is managed where.
If you use Shopify as your webshop, you can connect it to Cmerce and sell the same items at the till. Items, variants, collections, images and stock are fetched from Shopify and kept up to date automatically. Sales at the till are deducted from stock in Shopify. Shopify is the master source for the items – you make changes in Shopify.
Before you start
- The feature must be switched on for your shop by Cmerce.
- You need access to integrations in Cmerce, and administrator access in Shopify.
- The Shopify store must use Norwegian kroner (NOK).
How to do it
1. Create an app in Shopify
The connection uses an app you create yourself in Shopify's Dev Dashboard. You don't need anything from the Shopify App Store.
- In the Shopify admin, go to «Settings» → «Apps and sales channels» and choose to build apps in the Dev Dashboard. Check that the right organisation is selected.
- Create an app. Call it for example «Butikk» or «Kasse» – the name is shown as the sales channel on till sales in Shopify.
- Under «Versions»:
Enter the address of your webshop in «App URL», and untick «Embed app in Shopify admin».
Choose
2026-07as the «Webhooks API version».Paste these access scopes into «Scopes»:
read_products,read_inventory,write_inventory,read_locations,write_draft_ordersIf you want to send till sales to Shopify as orders, also add
,write_orders. If you want to use customer sync, add,read_customers,write_customers.
- Publish the version («Release») and install the app on the store.
- Copy the «Client ID» and «Client Secret» from the app's «Settings».
2. Run the wizard in Cmerce
- Go to «Integrasjoner» (Integrations) → «Shopify» and click «Koble til Shopify» (Connect Shopify).
- Tilkobling (Connection): Enter «Butikknavn» (Store name – just the name,
.myshopify.comis added automatically), «Client ID» and «Client Secret». - Innstillinger (Settings): Choose whether the items should also be shown in the Cmerce webshop («Vis produkter i nettbutikken»), which collections to sync, which Shopify locations count towards stock, which location till sales are deducted from, and whether to import images.
- Import: The catalogue is fetched in the background. You see the progress while it runs.
- Bekreft MVA (Confirm VAT): Cmerce has detected the VAT rate for the items. Check the rates and adjust as needed – «Sett alle til» (Set all to) sets the same rate on a whole group. The items become available at the till only after you confirm.
- When the setup is complete, you can click «Velg kassekategorier» (Choose POS categories) to arrange the category buttons at the till. See POS categories.
What is managed where?
| Managed in Shopify | Managed in Cmerce |
|---|---|
| Name, description, images, status and brand | VAT class |
| Shopify collections and which items are in them | Sales channels and visibility for customer groups |
| Variants: SKU, barcode, price, stock and options | Custom fields and automation |
| Tags | Local categories and POS categories (order, name, colour, icon) |
Fields managed from Shopify are locked on the item in Cmerce. You can override the price on a single variant with «Overstyr pris fra Shopify» (Override price from Shopify), or change prices in bulk with Shopify price rules – see Bulk price changes. Cmerce never sends prices to Shopify.
Settings afterwards
Under «Integrasjoner» → «Shopify» you can:
- change the settings from the wizard
- switch on «Send POS-salg til Shopify som ordre» (Send POS sales to Shopify as orders), and choose how «Varelinjer som ikke finnes i Shopify» (Lines that don't exist in Shopify) are sent
- switch on customer sync: «Hent kunder fra Shopify (innkommende)» (Fetch customers from Shopify – inbound) and «Send kunder til Shopify (utgående)» (Send customers to Shopify – outbound)
- see «Synkroniseringshistorikk» (Sync history) with the latest runs and «Trenger gjennomgang» (Needs review) for items that need checking
- use «Full resynkronisering» (Full resync), «Kjør MVA-deteksjon på nytt» (Run VAT detection again), «Oppdater tilgangsnøkler» (Update access keys) and «Koble fra» (Disconnect)
Good to know
- Updates: Changes in Shopify come across automatically, and a nightly reconciliation catches anything that may have been missed.
- Refunds are always made at the till, never in the Shopify admin. A refund made in Shopify does not end up in the till's electronic journal. Cmerce detects such refunds and warns you.
- Accounting: If you use an accounting app in Shopify, orders tagged
cmerce-posmust be excluded there. Till sales are booked from Cmerce. - Customer sync: If you switch on outbound customer sync, the name, email and phone number of till customers are shared with Shopify.
- New keys: If the keys have changed or the app has been recreated, use «Oppdater tilgangsnøkler». You don't need to run the wizard again.
- Disconnect: The items stay in Cmerce and can be edited freely afterwards.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I change the name of a Shopify item?
The name is managed in Shopify and would be overwritten at the next sync. Change it in Shopify. If you only want a shorter name on the category button at the till, use «Visningsnavn» (Display name) in the POS categories.
Can I add items in Cmerce that don't exist in Shopify?
Yes. Items you create in Cmerce are ordinary local items and can be sold at the till side by side with the Shopify items.
