Connect a receipt printer (Star CloudPRNT)
How to connect a Star printer with CloudPRNT to Cmerce using a pairing code, link it to your registers and test that printing works.
Cmerce prints receipts on Star printers with CloudPRNT. The printer sits on the store's network and collects its print jobs from Cmerce over the internet, so you do not need a cable to a PC. One printer can serve several registers.
Before you start
- A Star receipt printer that supports CloudPRNT, connected to power and the network (cable or Wi-Fi) with internet access.
- At least one register created. See Registers and locations.
- The permission «Konfigurere kassepunkter, lokasjoner, printer/leser» (Configure registers, locations, printer/reader).
How to connect the printer
- Go to «Kasse (POS)» → «Skrivere» (Printers).
- Press «Koble til skriver» (Connect printer). A five-step wizard opens.
- «Oppsett» (Setup): Follow the instructions. Open the printer's CloudPRNT settings and set Server URL to the address shown (press «Kopier» – Copy). Set the polling interval to, for example, 5 seconds, and save on the printer.
- The printer prints a slip with a pairing code (koblingskode).
- «Kode» (Code): Enter the code in «Koblingskode».
- «Navngi» (Name): Check the MAC address under «Skriver (MAC)» and give the printer a «Navn» (Name), for example «Kasseskriver» (Till printer).
- «Kasser» (Registers): Choose which registers should print on this printer under «Tilknytt kasser» (Link registers). This is optional – you can change it later on each register.
- «Verifiser» (Verify): Finish the wizard.
The printer now prints a confirmation, and you see the message «Skriver tilkoblet» (Printer connected).

Check the secure address
When you finish, Cmerce automatically moves the printer to a secure, permanent connection address. This usually takes a few seconds.
- Open the printer's CloudPRNT settings.
- Check that Server URL now ends in
/cloudprnt/…with a long address after it, and no longer just/cloudprnt.
If it has not changed, press «Tilkoblings-URL» (Connection URL) on the printer in the list and paste that address into the printer's Server URL manually. Printing keeps working in the meantime.
Test the printer
Press «Test utskrift» (Test print) on the printer in the list. You see «Testutskrift lagt i kø» (Test print queued), and the printer prints when it collects its next job.
Link the printer to a register later
- Go to «Kasse (POS)» → «Kasser» (Registers) and edit the register.
- Under «Maskinvare» (Hardware): choose «Nettverksskriver (CloudPRNT)» in «Skriver».
- Pick the printer in «Nettverksskriver».
- Save.
If the register has a cash drawer, it connects to the DK port on the printer. See The cash drawer.
Good to know
- A sale is never held up by the printer. If the printer is off or offline, the print job waits in the queue and prints when the printer is back.
- The «Tilkoblet» (Connected) column in the list shows whether the printer has been in touch with Cmerce recently.
- «Holdt tilbake» (Held back): Some receipts carry legally required markings that must be printed larger, for example KOPI (copy). If the printer cannot do this, the print job is held back. Once the problem is fixed, press «Frigi holdte utskrifter» (Release held prints).
- Disconnect: «Koble fra» (Disconnect) removes the printer from the store, and the registers lose the link. The printer can be connected again with a new code.
- New code: If the code is out of date, you get «Ugyldig kode» (Invalid code). Use the code from the latest slip the printer printed.
- Built-in printers in an iMin device or a Surfboard terminal are not shown in this list. They are managed automatically. See iMin with built-in printer.
Frequently asked questions
The printer only prints pairing codes, not receipts.
The printer is not connected to the store yet, or it has not moved to the secure address. Complete «Koble til skriver», and check Server URL as described above.
Can several registers use the same printer?
Yes. Choose the same printer on each register.
