Cookies and consent
How the cookie banner in the webshop works, and how to make sure tracking scripts such as Google Analytics and Meta Pixel only load once the customer has consented.
The webshop uses cookies that are needed for the shop to work, for example for the cart and for logging in. If you also want to use analytics or marketing tools, the customer must consent first. Cmerce therefore shows a cookie banner in the webshop, and can hold back your scripts until the customer has said yes.
The cookie banner
The first time someone visits the webshop, a banner appears at the bottom of the page:
Vi bruker informasjonskapsler for å forbedre din opplevelse. Du kan velge å akseptere eller avvise ikke-nødvendige informasjonskapsler.
(We use cookies to improve your experience. You can choose to accept or reject non-essential cookies.)
The banner has two buttons side by side: «Avvis» (Reject) and «Aksepter» (Accept). The customer must make an active choice – nothing is preselected. The choice is remembered for one year, and the banner does not appear again while the choice is stored.

Tracking scripts and consent
You add analytics and marketing scripts under «Innstillinger» (Settings) → «Nettbutikk» (Webshop) → «Utseende og innhold» (Appearance and content) → the «Avansert» (Advanced) tab → «Egne skript» (Custom scripts). Right below the field is the switch «Last først etter samtykke» (Load only after consent).
- Paste the script from the provider (for example Google Analytics or Meta Pixel) into the field «Skript i
<head>» (Script in<head>). - Leave «Last først etter samtykke» switched on (the default).
- Press «Lagre endringer» (Save changes).
With the switch on:
- Before the customer has chosen, the scripts do not load.
- If the customer presses «Aksepter», the scripts start immediately – the customer does not need to reload the page.
- If the customer presses «Avvis», the scripts never load.
Your responsibility
As the shop owner you are responsible for the scripts you add and for your privacy policy describing them correctly. The default privacy policy has a section on cookies stating that necessary cookies are used and that the customer is asked for consent for the rest. If you add third-party tools, you should mention them in the privacy policy under «Innstillinger» → «Nettbutikk» → «Juridiske sider» (Legal pages). See Right of withdrawal, terms and privacy.
Good to know
- Consent applies only to the webshop, including the customer account pages. The till and the admin panel never run your scripts.
- The banner appears on every theme.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change the text in the cookie banner?
No, the text is the same for all shops. Put any further information in the privacy policy.
Google Analytics shows fewer visits than before – why?
Visitors who press «Avvis» or do not choose are not measured. That is how consent is meant to work.
