Prices, VAT and customer group prices
How to set a VAT-inclusive price on an item, choose the right VAT rate, add separate prices for customer groups and quantity discounts, and use «Før-pris».
The price belongs to the variant, not to the product itself. If the item comes in only one version, it has one variant – the one you see on the «Varianter» (Variants) tab. All prices in Cmerce are entered in Norwegian kroner including VAT (mva), and the VAT rate is set by the VAT class on the variant.
Before you start
- You need permission to manage products.
- If the item is synchronised from Shopify, the price comes from Shopify – see «Good to know» below.
How to do it
Set the price
- Go to «Katalog» (Catalogue) → «Produkter» (Products) and open the item.
- Open the «Varianter» tab and open the variant.
- Under «Priser» (Prices), fill in «Pris (inkl. MVA)» (Price incl. VAT) in the row where «Kundegruppe» (Customer group) is «— Alle kunder —» (All customers) and «Min. antall» (Min. quantity) is 1. This is the normal price.
- Optionally fill in «Før-pris» (Before price) if the item is reduced (see below).
- Save.
Choose the VAT rate
- On the variant, choose the «Avgiftsklasse» (VAT class).
- Save.
To set the same VAT rate on many items, tick the items in the product list and choose the bulk action «Sett MVA-klasse» (Set VAT class). The rate is then set on all variants of the selected items.

Price for a customer group or for buying several
- Under «Priser» on the variant, click «Legg til pris» (Add price).
- Choose a «Kundegruppe» for a group price, or leave it on «— Alle kunder —» for a quantity price.
- Set «Min. antall» – for example 10 if the price should apply from 10 units.
- Fill in «Pris (inkl. MVA)» and save.
Customer groups are created under «Kunder» (Customers) → «Kundegrupper» (Customer groups). In the webshop, the customer gets the group price when logged in and a member of the group. Read more in Customers and customer groups.
Good to know
- «Før-pris» is your own comparison price. In the webshop it is shown struck through next to the price, with the discount as a percentage. It is not the same as the legally required førpris (reference price) – read Previous price and before price before using it.
- Existing subscriptions: If you change the price of a subscription product that has running subscriptions, you are asked whether «Eksisterende abonnementer» (Existing subscriptions) should keep the price they agreed (recommended), only be updated if they are on the old price, or all be updated. The change applies from the next renewal.
- Shopify items: The price comes from Shopify and cannot be changed here. If you switch on «Overstyr pris fra Shopify» (Override price from Shopify) on the variant, you control the price locally and are notified if the Shopify price changes. If you switch it off again, the Shopify price is restored. See also Bulk price changes about Shopify price rules.
- Price history: Every price change is stored. You see them on the «Prishistorikk» (Price history) tab on the item, and all together under «Logging» → «Prishistorikk».
- Sales in progress: A new price applies to new sales. Sales already completed at the till keep the price the customer paid.
- Many prices: Use Bulk price changes to change prices on many items at once.
Frequently asked questions
Can I enter a price excluding VAT?
No. The price field always includes VAT. The variant table shows both «Inkl. MVA» (incl. VAT) and «Ekskl. MVA» (excl. VAT), so you can check the amount without VAT.
Why doesn't the customer get the group price?
Check that the customer has been added to the customer group, is logged in to the webshop, and that «Min. antall» on the group price is not higher than the quantity in the basket.
