The X-report: requirements and contents

What an X-report is under the law, what it must contain, how it differs from the Z-report – and how Cmerce produces it.

The X-rapport (X-report) is an interim report. It shows the same figures as the Z-report – but without closing anything and without resetting the day's figures. You can run as many X-reports as you like, for example at a shift change or when you want to check the till in the middle of the day. Here is how to run one: X-report – mid-day status.

What is the difference between X and Z?

X-reportZ-report
WhenAny time while the shift is openWhen the shift is closed, at least once per trading day
Resets the day's figuresNoYes
Closes the shiftNoYes
How manyAs many as you likeOne per closed shift, numbered consecutively
Marking«X-RAPPORT»«Z-RAPPORT» with a number
Required every dayNoYes (bokføringsforskriften § 5-3-14)

The contents are the same: § 2-8-3 says the Z-report must contain the information in § 2-8-2, except the X marking.

What is on the X-report?

In short, the same as on the Z-report, for the period since the previous Z-report:

  • shop name and organisation number, date and time, register
  • total cash sales, sales per product group and sales per payment method – also per operator
  • VAT per rate
  • opening float and expected cash in the drawer
  • number of sales receipts, copy receipts, return receipts, training receipts and delivery receipts
  • discounts, cancelled sales and line corrections
  • number of cash drawer openings
  • credit sales and other payments in and out
  • grand total for sales, returns and net

The full walk-through, letter by letter, is in The Z-report: requirements and contents.

How Cmerce does it

  • Same rules as Z. The X-report is built the same way as the Z-report, so the figures match. What you see on the X-report just before closing time is what will appear on the Z-report – unless something more happens at the till before you close.
  • Zeros are shown. All mandatory lines appear, including when the figure is zero.
  • The grand total is running. The grand total figures on the X-report are the same accumulated figures as on the Z-report – for the register's whole lifetime, not just the shift.
  • Journalled. Every X-report is recorded in the electronic journal and included in the SAF-T export.
  • On screen, paper or PDF. You can view the X-report on the till screen, print it on the till's printer or open it in the browser.

What you must do yourself

The law requires that the till can produce X-reports, but not that you run them. Many shops use the X-report to:

  • check that the cash in the drawer is right before a shift change
  • see how much has been sold so far today
  • check the figures before closing the till and running the Z-report

Remember that the X-report does not replace the Z-report. The daily settlement must always end with a Z-report.

In short

  • The X-report is an interim report with the same contents as the Z-report, but it resets nothing.
  • It is marked «X-RAPPORT» and can be run as often as you like.
  • Cmerce journals every X-report and shows all mandatory lines, including zeros.
  • It never replaces the daily Z-report.
