Stripe
How to connect your own Stripe account to Cmerce for card payments in the webshop, and how to set up Stripe Terminal readers at the till.
Surfboard is the main choice for card payments in Cmerce, but Stripe is still available and can be used alongside Surfboard. If you already have a Stripe account, you can connect it to Cmerce with Stripe Connect. Customers then pay by card in the webshop, and at the till you can use Stripe Terminal card readers. The money goes straight to your Stripe account.
Before you start
- You need the «Betalingsmetoder» (Payment methods) permission.
- You need a Stripe account, or you can create one along the way at Stripe.
- To use Stripe at the till, you need a Stripe Terminal card reader and your registers set up in Cmerce.
How to do it
Connect your Stripe account
- Go to «Innstillinger» (Settings) → «Salg og betaling» (Sales and payment) → «Betalingsmetoder» (Payment methods).
- On the Stripe card, click «Koble til Stripe Connect» (Connect Stripe Connect).
- You are sent to Stripe. Log in (or create an account) and approve the connection.
- You are sent back to Cmerce. The Stripe card now shows «Tilkoblet» (Connected) with business name, email, account ID and currency.
- Check that both «Betalinger» (Payments) and «Utbetalinger» (Payouts) show «Aktivert» (Enabled). If either shows «Ikke aktivert» (Not enabled), Stripe is missing information from you – complete it in the Stripe dashboard.
- Switch the card on («Aktivert») and choose channels under «Kanaler:» (Channels).
Setting up Stripe Terminal at the till
The «Stripe Terminal (kasse)» section appears on the card once Stripe is connected and you have ticked «Kasse (POS)» (Till).
- Click «Legg til lokasjon» (Add location). Fill in the shop's name and address and save. Stripe requires a location before you can connect a reader.
- Start the card reader and find the registration code on its screen.
- Click «Koble til leser» (Connect reader). Enter the «Registreringskode» (Registration code), give the reader a «Navn» (Name) and choose the «Lokasjon» (Location).
- The reader appears under the location with the status «Tilkoblet» (Online) or «Frakoblet» (Offline).
- Tick the register or registers the reader will be used on. One reader can serve several registers.
When a register has a Stripe reader, the reader shows the basket as you ring up items, and the customer pays by holding the card to the reader.
Good to know
- In the webshop the amount is reserved when the customer pays, and charged when you deliver the order. See Capturing payment and fulfilling the order.
- Stripe cannot charge part of a reservation. If an online order has both items that are charged automatically and items to be delivered later, the whole amount waits until the order is delivered.
- At the till the card is charged straight away once the customer has approved the payment.
- Click «Verifiser» (Verify) to fetch the latest status from Stripe. «Koble til på nytt» (Reconnect) runs the connection again, for example if you have switched accounts.
- «Koble fra» (Disconnect) stops all payments through Stripe, and the Stripe card is disabled. Payments already made are not affected.
- You see Stripe fees and payouts in the Stripe dashboard. Cmerce does not fetch payout reports from Stripe.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Stripe and Surfboard at the same time?
Yes. Customers see both in the webshop if both are switched on for «Nettbutikk». Use «Sett standard» (Set as default) to choose which is pre-selected. At the till, the terminal linked to the register is used.
The reader shows «Frakoblet».
Check that the reader is switched on and connected to the network. If it is still offline, remove it and connect it again with a new registration code.
