Gift cards at the till – selling and redeeming

At the till you can both sell gift cards (gavekort) and accept gift cards as payment. The gift cards are the same as in the webshop: a card bought in the shop can be used online, and vice versa. The customer can use part of the balance and keep the rest for later.

Selling a gift card

1. Tap «Mer» (More) and choose «Selg gavekort» («Utsted et gavekort til kunden» – issue a gift card to the customer).
2. Enter the amount under «Beløp» (Amount), or tap one of the quick buttons.
3. Optionally fill in «Mottakers navn» (Recipient's name), «Mottakers e-post» (Recipient's e-mail), «Mottakers mobil» (Recipient's mobile) and a «Hilsen» (Message). All fields are optional.
4. Tap «Legg til i salget» (Add to sale). The gift card is now a line in the cart.
5. Take payment as usual with cash, card, Vipps or another payment method.

Once the sale is paid, the gift card is created. The receipt window shows «Gavekort utstedt» (Gift card issued) with the full code, the amount and how long the card is valid («Gyldig til …» – valid until). If the till has a printer, a separate gift-card slip is printed. If you filled in an e-mail or mobile number, the gift card is also sent there.

Accepting a gift card as payment

1. Tap «Betal» (Pay) and choose «Gavekort».
2. Type the code under «Gavekortkode» (Gift card code – the format is GK-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX), or tap the QR button and scan the code on the gift card. A barcode scanner also works.
3. Tap «Slå opp» (Look up).
4. The till shows «Gavekort ••••» with the last four characters, «Tilgjengelig saldo» (Available balance) and «Trekkes fra gavekort» (Deducted from gift card).
   • If it says «Gavekortet dekker hele beløpet.» (The gift card covers the whole amount), tap «Bekreft betaling» (Confirm payment).
   • If it says «Rest å betale» (Remaining to pay), choose how the rest is paid under «Betal resten med» (Pay the rest with) and tap «Bekreft betaling». See Split payment with several payment methods.

Whatever is left on the gift card, the customer can use another time. To use a different card, tap «Bytt kort» (Change card).

Good to know

• Amount limits: The shop decides the minimum and maximum amount for gift cards sold at the till. Outside the limits you get «Beløpet må være mellom … og … kr.» (The amount must be between … and … kr). The limits are set under «Innstillinger» → «Salg og betaling» → «Gavekort» (Settings → Sales and payment → Gift cards). The quick buttons at the till are the same fixed amounts («Valører» – denominations) the webshop uses, and they are set on the same page. Gift-card sales at the till can also be switched off there («Selg gavekort i kassen» – sell gift cards at the till).
• A gift card cannot be bought with a gift card. If there is a gift card in the cart, «Gavekort» is not shown as a payment method.
• Invalid code: If the code is wrong, expired, used up or blocked, you get the same message: «Ugyldig gavekort, eller det kan ikke brukes (utløpt, tomt eller sperret).» (Invalid gift card, or it cannot be used – expired, empty or blocked.) For security reasons the till does not say which. Too many failed attempts in a short time are stopped.
• Returning a sold gift card is only possible while the card is completely unused. If any of the balance has been used, the purchase cannot be returned.
• Returning a sale paid with a gift card: The gift-card part is credited back to the gift card first, the rest to the other payment method.
• Training mode: You can neither sell nor redeem gift cards in training mode.
• Overview: All gift cards, balances and movements are under «Salg» → «Gavekort» (Sales → Gift cards) in the back office. See Gift cards – administration.
• The Android till app: «Selg gavekort» is under «Mer». When paying, choose «Gavekort», type the code under «Gavekortkode» or tap «Skann gavekort» (Scan gift card), and tap «Fortsett» (Continue).

Frequently asked questions

The customer has lost the gift card. Can I find the code?

No. For security reasons both the till and the back office only show the last four characters after the sale. If the gift card was sent by e-mail or SMS, the customer can find the code there.

Can the customer have the remaining balance paid out in cash?

No, the till has no function for paying out a gift-card balance. The balance stays on the card until the next purchase.
